Well Boo.

I'm not happy.

My firmware update is done.

It was: V 2.39.151 19-11-04 RM-1
Its now: V 4.03.18 04-03-05 RM-1

BUT.

I still can't set MP3s as ringtones.. (damn you Vodafone) and also - bizarrely in my Gallery. Where my MP3s used to sort themselves out into albums/subfolders. ie: If I put more than one Killers song on there - it would create a subfolder entitled with the Album name that the songs came from. ..and it doesn't do it anymore!

RUBBISH!

Can't really see any immediate improvements.
The bug that I had has gone.. but that's about it.

*shrug*

Unfortunately the only way you'll lose the ringtone restrictions is to debrand the handset. The subfoldering thing seems weird though, surely that'd be done by the application doing the transfer - not the software on your phone? You might be able to fiddle and fix that...

Hmm.. if you say so - I'll look into it - cheers.
I'm just restoring the content via Nokia Suite - maybe that will sort it out.

Debranding eh?
How do I do that?
Is it a pain in the backside to do and is it expensive?!

You just get the handset flashed with generic firmware instead of branded firmware. Carphone Warehouse will do this for £30. More info here: https://talk3g.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1123&highlight=carphone+warehouse

I guess someone needs to buy the damn thing first! If anyone *does* have the music edition it'd be nice to know the firmware version, though.

Edit: Welcome to Talk3G, BTW! Enjoy!

Hi Guys,
I know you would have moved on with your lives and cell phones and all of you would have thrown your cell phones or gotten an upgrade from the provider :P

To everyones amazement, I still have an O2 6630 with me :P with a small problem. It does not do a redial, yes, if I open any contact from my phone contact list and just want to dial the contact's default number by pressing the green button on my phone, nothing happens. So then I have to restart my phone and it works for a couple of times and then the same old problem. This happened when I changed my sim card a year back due to some reasons.

V 4.03.38
25-04-05
RM-1

This is the sotware version currently on my phone and I have downloaded it from Nokia website. Can anyone help me out here...............?

Oh lordy! I remember those :) Welcome to Talk3G skhattak - I'm sure one of our vets will know what to do for sure

Have you tried resetting the handset back to its factory settings? There is usually a menu item to let you do that. It would be a good start.

Also, when you updated to the latest firmware, did you set the phone up by hand or did you restore the settings that you saved with the earlier firmware? My reason for asking is that restoring a previous version's settings is usually a bad idea and can introduce all sorts of odd behavior in the handset.

And now ....... over to someone who knows more about this specific handset, hopefully :D

What a bizarre coincidence ! - I stumbled across my 6630 today while searching for something else .... Funny , I hate the shape of it when I first got it , but now I think it looks quite nice , funny how our tastes change !

As suggested above , a reset will solve most issues , if a reset doesn't solve it , then a firmware flash may help (via Nokia's online update facilty ) - if that doesn't work , then you may have a hardware issue

If I were you I'd

1) Back up all data to memory card (unless you are happy to lose it all)

2) Perform a reset (type in *#7370# - then enter the code 12345 )

3) Restore your data -

Then , if all works fine , then great :D

If not , I'd try the above again , but this time without the Backing up . restoring of data ( or back up to Nokia PC suite or something ) - Try to come to terms with the fact you may have lost your data - then see how it goes , it may have been that something you added was messing things up and getting saved in the back up - If all works now , Great !

If not , the last thing you can try is to connect to Nokia's software updater on their website and update to the latest firmware

If that doesn't sort you out , your phone is dead I'm afraid :(

*#7780# might be good to try as well
