EasyMobile Had 15,000 Customers At End Of June

LONDON (Dow Jones)--EasyMobile, the budget mobile phone operator run by TDC AS (TLD), had 15,000 customers at the end of June.

EasyMobile, which uses the brand of Stelios Haji-Ioannou's easyGroup, launched its mobile phone service in March.

EasyMobile said it has taken a 10% share of overall sales on mobile phone services online over the period, and 15% of online pay-as-you-go market.

The mobile operator leases capacity from T-Mobile International AG's (TMO.YY) U.K. network. The "virtual operator" doesn't sell a handset with its SIM cards and only sells handsets over the internet and not in retail chains. That helps the company save costs so it can offer lower tariffs that its competitors.

On launching in March, easyMobile became embroiled in a price war with Carphone Warehouse Group PLC (CPW.LN). EasyMobile's prices were cut to six pence a minute for voice calls and two pence a text message but have now reverted to 15 pence a minute for voice and 5 pence a text.
