What a year 2005 has been!

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this truly independent 3G forum. 2005 for us at Talk3G has been mostly about building a resource, a vision, a community. It has taken hard work and dedication to ensure Talk3G was a success, rather than 'just another forum' on the Internet.

By the end of 2006 there's much I hope we will have achieved. But, more than that, I hope that 3G will be enriching the lives of the masses, not the few, as it was intended to do.

With HSDPA just around the corner, and innovations such as VoIP and WiMAX on the cards, we're in for an exciting year. I hope you'll join us, as we continue to Talk3G.

Here's to an abs0lutely fabulous 2006!

Ben

Yep, Happy New Year! I might get my Christmas cards done early so I dont have to rush when it becomes Christmas 2006. Oh and one of my new years res is not to buy more than 4 phones in a year. :(

Mhm... we might have to do everything within our powers to ensure you don't keep that resolution, crowfield99! ;)

Yes, Happy New Year everyone. I have a similar resolution to crowfield99 but do not for one moment expect to be able to keep it :D Questions such as do I go for the 6280 when its out in January (?) or wait for the N80 are already foremost in my mind

Don't forget we've got coming in 2006 the first signs of DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast - Handheld) being touted as "the next big thing" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4529116.stm). Cor :)

What does everyone see in the Nokia 6280?. People over at What Mobile are going nuts waiting for it and i dont see why

I think that the big buzz around the 6280 has to be its compactness for a 3G phone coupled with a decent spec - possibly well placed to draw 2G-based S40 users into 3G without too much fuss.

For my part the 6280 should have been the small pocketable Nokia 3G handset that I wanted for 2005. It has a respectable set of feature, nothing earth-shattering, to keep me going. The S40 OS is fine for what I wanted - getting the full-on Symbian experience from my S60-based 6680. Above all, a certain commonality of look and feel of the OS, particularly with reference to using SMS, was what I really wanted.

The endless delays seem to have done little to diminish the pent up demand for it until the final month of 2005. As December drew on we have seen a number of potential 6280 buyers (on here) drift away to another (3G) handset such as the Moto V3x.

I'm wondering if, in the light of the 6280 delays, Nokia will delay the N80 release in 2006, putting it off by several months! That would be irritating.

The 6280 will be on sale late this month for new customers on 3. The N80 is due about April/May time i think so its down to if you can wait that long

:D .

3 have told me over the phone this morning you can upgrade anytime after 3 months with them but you do have a charge for doing so. I am on an 18 month plan but do you think i can wait 17 months for an upgrade? hell no :p

Aparantly upgrading to the N70 after 3 months costs £295.00 and the phone is free for you. Not bad when you think your original phone is yours to do as you wish then.

I mean say i decided to get the N70 after 3 months, I could sell my V3x for about £150-£175 and take that off the upgrade price.

N80 + 6280 will be about the same for upgrading so i think i will wait for the N80 as my plan will be about 4-5 months in by then and the fee will be less
