Welcome to talk3g.co.uk.

Good find, if accurate there will be a lot of new 02 customers on that day.

The N-80 looks set to be one of the star handsets of 2006 and will be well worth the wait.

I think you will find there wont be much difference between release dates with voda and o2, given the fact that they are the 2 more major market leaders. The release dates maybe within a week of each other, at least you will have a month or two for them to iron out any firmware probs cos of your contract i dont have that luxury my contract is out 7th may so i just gotta get it and pray.

Make sure you have a back up of all your contacts/content and then check for upgrades via your local nokia service centre on a monthly basis. With the N70 we had major releases every two weeks, although these were not for all operators... and from what i remember of the roadmap the N80 was pretty similar

I still know a few people who are working on the N80 so I'll send out a few tendrils and see if they'll give me any dates for other networks...:)

Nice one lass. ;)

I still don't understand what the issue is with Vodafone's firmware mind.
Everywhere I've taken my N70 to get it done - they've steered well clear because of it..

All very bizarre!

I have heard that Vodafone will be launching the N80 on the 20th April. 3 will also release it in April.

Good news as i have just bought a 60GB Ipod Video so cant afford one for another 3 weeks :D

14th April is payday so as long as its not out before then i am ok with it.

Yea, but just think, this time we could all be watching it happen on our N80s (getting back on topic :D).

Talking of which, just a comment on its WiFi capabilities. It is my observation that a lot of people leave their domestic (and quite a few Office/Business) WiFi routers wide open, no sort of encryption or other access protection at all - taking the "out of the box, plug and play" too literally.

This, depending on how you look at it, bodes quite well for anyone with an N80 and, say, Skype or another VoIP application on the handset. Just cruise around any street until you locate an unguarded AP, it won't take long, register on to the network and phone a friend for free!! Scary stuff indeed:eek:

I wonder if the advent of the N80 and its WiFi capabilities, and no doubt more of the same from Nokia and others, will just make the situation worse/better (depending on how you look at these things).

NB: I just had a new "open" AP pop up within wireless range of my house this week. Once I find out who it is I'll be knocking on their door offering my services :D (at a fee of course!).

Edit: Out of renewed curiosity, I just took a wander along my road, not more than 200metres from my front door - and in that distance I picked up five unprotected WiFi routers (1 x Netgear, 3 x Belkin 54G and a pair in a home (CraggHome (WEP on) and CraggHome2 (WEP off!)) part of a wireless extension I'd say). All of them invited me to join their network with my iPAQ Pocket PC. I declined :D

The problem with wireless networks is quite a few people dont know how to set them up correct. I will admit when i had my PSP for the 1st time i would often do a scan and find open networks to connect to.

I would never use this to steal any information, the only thing i might use it for is email checking or some downloading of updates for the PSP..... however there are people out there who DO use it to steal files or for illigal use.

1 thing im looking forward to on the N80 is the WiFi because Skype will be available for it. When i go New York in November they have free hotspots all over the place so i can connect to one of them, load skype and talk to home for free. It has its other uses though as places like McDonalds have WiFi so instead of downloading your emails at 384k if you are lucky to get 3G coverage, you can do it at near 2mb

well thats good because it shows that o2 could possibly be using that initial month to test and work round any issues with firmware, further snooping has showed that nokia are shipping to all networks at the same time. It could be that o2 use that time to lock down some of the features however going on o2's past models released that is unlikely. woohoo :D
