MILAN (AFX) Telecom Italia Mobile SpA chief executive Marco De Benedetti has predicted that by the end of 2007 over half of the groups Italian customers will be using third generation technology.

In a meeting with analysts, De Benedetti said: In three years time over half of
our customers will have third generation, totalling 18.7 mln lines. In 2004, only 7 percent of the overall 63.2 mln mobile phone lines in Italy used so called third generation EDGE and UMTS technology.

De Benedetti said that the life span of handsets is about two years, falling to
less than one year for top tier clients, and sales of third generation handsets
could be more than 50 percent of the total at the end of this year and over 70 percent in 2007.
