Errr, wow! Someone at the EU actually wants to know what we Customers think? This is not an opportunity to be missed. If you travel abroad with your mobile phone and feel scared to use it in the face of the anticipated huge roaming charges you'll face when you get home, then this is something you should seriously consider participating in.

Lots of links for you to click in the article below - including the Consultation document.

Roaming Rip-Offs: Do you want to see something done about European mobile roaming rates, or do you think operators should have the right to charge whatever they want? The EC wants to hear from you either way

The European Commission has called for more input from the public and private sectors on the future costs of using a mobile while abroad.

Information Society commissioner Viviane Reding has launched a consultation into the price of roaming in Europe, saying the Commission hoped to eventually cut the cost of roaming by 60 per cent.

Reding is hoping to introduce legislation that will effectively allow consumers to use their phone abroad for the same price as in their home country.

The Commission has now opened the second phase of the consultation into roaming costs, which will last until 12 May, and is asking interested parties for their feedback on how the proposed legislation should take shape.

The EC has a Web site (http://europa.eu.int/information_society/activities/roaming/index_en.htm) for those wishing to submit their comments.

"Compare the prices yourself - roaming charges have barely improved since this site was launched last October ..."
