Hi, can anyone help with this? I have a W900i and I want to install the sky by mobile software so I can remote record to my Sky+ digibox. However when I try to do this my phone says that it is not compatible. I have mobile tv and that works fine so it makes no sense to me. Any ideas? Thanks

It also doesn't work on my S60 3rd Ed. N80. I can only assume current compatibility is only older S60 devices like the 6680?

The W900i would need a Java version, and I'm not sure that there is one.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you're enjoying your W900i other than this... I also have one and it's a mind-blowing piece of kit.

I went to register for Skybymobile but I hesitated .... was going to try to use my Nokia 6280. But how is this supposed to work? How does the programming get to the Sky+ box.

Looking at their current compatibility list (http://www.sky.com/skybymobile/requirements) the Nokia N80 and the SE W900i are not listed.

Follow up:

I installed the Sky By Mobile on the Nokia 6280. It did not take too long on T-Mobile 3G, the app is tiny. After logging in the responsiveness is quite quick, probably on a par with the EPG on the Sky box itself.

I went to the Remote Record function and the screen says

Coming soon. Remote Record enables you to request recordings using your mobile phone wherever you are in the world direct to your Sky+ box

....
....

To register press Interactive on your Sky+ remote control, select Sky Customer Service and select Remote Record.

This must be sending the programming update on some kind of backlink or side channel to the Sky+ box. Neat. Very neat :) Now all I need is for Sky to actually perform their thrice-aborted Sky+ installation (another thread on T3G).

Cheers Ben - you're right it probably is that. Other than that the phone is sublime.

You're right too HandsOn, I should have checked the compatability list!

I have sky+ but I dont think the remote record is up and running yet... was told that there should be a pack in the post when the remote record is working.

Yeah, I'm the same, it's all up and running on my 6680, full TV listings and everything however it says the Remote Recoding profile is not available when I try to record.

If you get onto the TV, press interactive then customer service there's an option in there to add the remote record function... however, it's just saying coming soon, check back for details! Aaarrgh! I want it now!

I've now got it up and running on my w900i, it won't let you do it automatically from the Sky site, you need to download the .jar file manually and install it.

Works really well

Indeed, a link to the jar would be great!

That's the 6230 jar file.

Thanks :)

I got it off another TV forum (am I allowed to link to other forums), I'm not sure how to host it, but I have kept it if anyone wants it.

I installed (from Sky's normal method) to a SE K700i yesterday. Oddly, although I could log in with my Nokia 6280 it was impossible to make a connection with the K700i. I thought it may be due to the K700i being on O2, but all the web browsing functions worked so I don't think its an O2 network issue, unless they are blocking whatever ports the Sky app uses.

Although that said, trying to connect with the 6280 right now and its having none of it. I think that the connectivity is a bit flaky at best - its not been a reliable method to date (even on the 6280 or my lad's N70). Maybe Sky need to put in a bigger server :D

Hi,

As a newbie who read this thread, here's some more detail on getting Sky+ Remote Recording working on my UK Vodafone branded SE W900i.....

Do all the parts of the process that you should do....you know.....register for the Customer Zone (CZ) on Sky.com, activate 'Sky by Mobile' Service from CZ, from your Sky+/HD box use the mySky Interactive service with your CZ UName & Pwd to link box to your mobile phone number.

After doing all that, I found the link to download the application to my hand set didn't work at all  ....this is from the 'Sky by Mobile page under Services in CZ.

A call to Sky for support resulted in them texting me the URL to get the Sky by Mobile application. This is a generic link that is then supposed to identify the Make/Model of your handset once you connect:

http://mobile.sky.com/skyapp/skyapp

With the W900i this results in an IIS web server 'page not found' message. I entered this in a PC web browser to test it - same thing.

Double-checked with Sky that URL was correct - yes it was...was told the W900i was not (yet) a supported handset  Lots of BS about specific models, i's and chip sets etc etc

SOLUTION....:)

 ....after a bit of experimenting:

Enter this URL in your browser http://mobile.sky.com/skyapp/

You will then see the following on the Sky server:

mobile.sky.com - /skyapp/

Download the 'Sony Ericsson (video) v 2.11' jar file to your PC....transfer to your phone and install....

....and bingo....yes it worked for me :D :D - and it's very very impressive response times and functionality

As far as I know, the W800/i and W810/i run virtually the same core operating system so it >should
It's worth book-marking the URL(s) as you can check-back for updates....plus you know the source of the file is good too :)

Hope that helps !

Hello WizWaz, welcome to Talk3G.

Thank you for the very detailed first posting of yours. There will be many happy SE W900i owners (me too!), and others judging by the list of handsets in the above.

Sky+ by mobile is excellent, I'm lovin it on my 6280. Not missed a "must see" since :)

Hi Guys,

Following WizWaz's good post, found it hasn't worked for me but was hoping despite being on a w850i that it would.

I'll check up with Sky later (been on the blower to them just a wee bit too much lately) but was wondering if anyone knew about 850 support?

Cheers,

neo

Seem to be having the same problemas Handson, my W850i has the Sky software loaded and allows me to enter the usermane and password then says connecting, but after a while states data connection unavailable, check network coverage. I know that the coverage is good as it will connect through the phones browser. I am also on O2.
i was under the understanding that the firmware is similar to the W800 which is supported by Sky
Can anyone help?
