From Netimperitive (18/04/2005):

Mobile operator O2 has inked a deal with The Financial Times to provide global business and financial news to mobile users.

The mobile content package, syndicated by Roundpoint, can be tailored by each user depending on their region and will be available on the O2 Active portal and O2‘s Xda ll range.

As part of this deal, O2 Active and O2 Xda ll handheld users can now read content from the Financial Times alongside existing content from The Economist, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph, The Times and the Spectator.

Hugh Griffiths, head of data products at O2, said: “We know that wallpaper, games, ringtones and football scores have become big business for mobile content providers but our customers are also telling us that they want to access personal, tailored and more business focused information on their mobile devices."

Regional information is also provided from the Evening Standard, Glasgow Herald and the Belfast Telegraph.

The move follows on from a partnership between The FT and Sony Ericsson last September, which saw the launch of an FT.com mobile service that allows consumers to read business news, comment and analysis on their mobiles.

Steven Trew, head of FT Mobile said: "The UK is constantly seeing shifts in how the population consume media and the FT is meeting these needs by offering a range of online, interactive and mobile content to extend their information services."
