The Register has a review of the Nokia N93, which it views favourably. I hadn't really thought much about this handset, but it sounds like it has come a long way from the N90.
It's a funny looking, bulky thing though...

It's certainly a lot better than the N90, which was buggy and awful. personally, I think it's trying to be too much, and like the review says, with no support for BT keyboard it's never going to be a laptop replacement, but is it good enough to grab users away from other handsets?

I got one coming in for review either this week or very early next week. Will report my findings as usual :)

I rather think that it will score fairly/very well with those who like to "do video". But for anything much else it does rather seem a bit of over-complex in a number of ways.
I'm highly suspicious of all that twistin and turnin that it can/has to do. The mechanism is mentioned in the review, but of course until its been in practical use for a few months no one will really know how robust it truly is.
I also seriously question the size of the thing, it looks huge. Dunno, it raises a number of conflicting feelings in me when I look at it and read about it. I reckon that I don't really like it, but cant help but be impressed by it!
Go figure :D

You've captured how I feel about the handset in that sentence! It's a technological marvel to be sure, but then so was the space shuttle and I don't want one of those in my pocket.
Not that many people text with the space shuttle...

N93....yeah ok it's a bit bigish......but not that big when you think about what you actually get with this all singing and dancing device!
Won't be long before they can cram all these goodies into something as slim and sleek as a v3.

I've just been playing with one in the office.
You're right - it IS a bit on the big side.
But it is also quite lush.
Especially in 'watch TV' mode.
And the video quality is amazing.
A wicked (not so) little phone.
..and here's some pics I just took.

(whatleydude) Is it me or is the phone screen on the n93 smaller than the n70?

Bummer! Does that mean Alio wins a brand new N93 for spotting that before anyone else :D
It does rather seem smaller - tell me it aint' so! But I do like the OAP-sized keypad. My lad's got the N70 and I just cannot handle the keypad, it is just wayyyy to small - they go it right on the 6680 (the N70's predecessor).
I still wouldn't have one in my pocket for daily use as a phone though. I can see a market for it for videographers and wonder how long it will be before one of these does the rounds in an Arctic Circle jaunt or suchlike.

I'm not sure lads - it does look that way doesn't it.
I'll take a better photo on Monday morning and report back.
It is very nice mind - there's this shooting game on it where you're racing down this tunnel, a bit like Wipeout - can't remember the name of it - but it's amazing.
I'll see if I can get a video of it and post that too.

The N93 has a QVGA screen and is slightly bigger than the N70's.
FACT.

Hey....(getti)
Had a look at those vid clips......yeah I see what you mean!
Still pretty good though.......plus Nokia worded it quite well...... "DVD (like) quality" leaves the statement quite open mind!
Anyway.......Will new/future firmware improve the video quality?

Excellent article Getti - I noticed the clicking noise on the video samples immediately, and before I'd read further through your article making mention of these. I found it irritating right from the off - distracting to the point that if it had been The Wedding I'd have started to lose interest almost immediatley.
That said, it is bad practise to use the Zoom function when actually filming, except in very limited circumstances. The Zoom should be used to compose the shot and then left alone throughout.
I think that I have not been sold on the N93 from the off, and the video samples you have provided confirm my agnosticism to the device. Take it or leave it? If its all the same, I'll leave it :D

Bit of a tough one as 3 dont list coming soon phones anywhere apart from their internal systems.
I can say it has NOT shown up there so far but the SE W850, W950 and another SE believed to be the Z610 are now listed internally.
The N73 and K800 were listed bout 2-3 months before they came out. Problem with the N93 is its just too damn big!.
I ignored everyone telling me it was large but once i got to use one it soon hit me. People at work even started laughing at the size of it

Thanks for the comments everyone. I know zoom is not used all the time but thought the zoom click was a major issue with the N93 so wanted to point it out.
