From Telegraph OnLine (14/11/2006):

Vodafone is to offer mobile customers cheaper services if they accept Yahoo! adverts on their phones.

The move comes a day after Google's chief executive, Eric Schmidt, predicted mobiles might become free as they are increasingly used to shop and search online, making them ever more attractive to advertisers.

Vodafone said: "Customers who agree to accept carefully targeted display advertisements can expect to enjoy savings on certain Vodafone services."

The world's biggest mobile phone company said it would help boost its games, television and picture messaging businesses.

The tie-up with Yahoo! is the latest attempt by Vodafone to boost growth as it struggles with intense competition and the fact that major markets such as the UK are already saturated with mobile use.

One has to wonder what those "certain Vodafone services" are ......!

Cheap calls and texts are the way to go for all of the network providers. Anything else is just bells and whistles - the "killer ap" has not yet been discovered beneath the pot at the end of the rainbow :D
