I couldn't decide where to put this, so it's here, if the mods want to move it please go ahead.

I've just installed fring (http://www.fring.com/) onto my N80, which is supposed to allow me to use both skype and google talk. You can use your wifi connection, so calls will be free. It's available on a range of Nokia handsets, but has only just been released for Symbian 9.

I made a test call and it worked well even though I'm not in a 3g area. I'll only use this app at home over my wifi connection.

Here are some of the features:
* Voice calls and chat over 3G and Wi-Fi
* Skype and Google Talk integration (Voice and Chat)
* History (Missed calls, Incoming/Outgoing calls)
* Improved voice quality compared with previous versions

Note: The Nokia N80 and N80i have been fully signed by Nokia. All other handsets are still in process. Therefore, you will be able to use them (with additional “warning” screen during installation) and GUI might be somewhat offset.

Anyone else using it?

Just an update to say that I had a successful skype call for about 15 mins over wifi. Call clarity was ok but there was a slight delay.

Overall I'd recommend this piece of software.

fring ???? I thought you were about to launch into a tirade about something then :D :D

I haven't a S60 to play with on T-Mobile so can't play with it without attracting heavy data costs grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That's a slick site. I'll pay this some more attention.

I spotted it a while back while looking for a skype application for the N80 and it just seems to be growing all the time.
This is going to save me a few quid a month as I'll be using skype to make the odd call at home, thus saving my included minutes. I forgot to top up my skype account when they had that offer of 6 months free landline calls for a £10 deposit :(

I chucked this on my N70 for a laugh and called a colleage in the US over Skype. I'll probably get it onto the work mobile group when the handsets finally arrive as we have an unlimited (within fair usage policy) data package...

Cute app though, but I've noticed on the N70 it causes the battery and signal strength bars to disappear (requires reboot to return)

I've just changed my firmware to the N80ie (using NSS and Nokia Software Updater) and fring works fine on that.

Having used it a few times now, I can say that, it's pretty good. Call quality could be better, but it's fine for what it is.

I leave it running in the background (using wifi to connect) and I haven't noticed any significant battery loss.
