Vodafone customers will get better instant messaging services on their mobile phones, thanks to deals with Microsoft and Yahoo! announced today.

We’re working with Microsoft to deliver an enhanced co-branded and seamless instant messaging service, based on the Windows Live Messenger platform, that can be accessed from both PCs and mobile phones. The new service will be launched in select European markets later this year.

In addition, we’re extending our partnership with Yahoo! in a similar deal, meaning our customers will be able to send instant messages from PC to mobile and vice versa, as well as having easy access to their contacts and friends. Yahoo! has been our exclusive display advertising partner in the UK since 2006.

Now it would be lovely if vodafone got off their ass and offered date to match this wonderfull access to yahoo. Ie along the lines of web and walk!

Who the hell would want to use vodafone to access it given ther lack of data access at their current prices, oh yea we are arae of something comming in march, but even that has taken 9 months if not longer to come up with following web and walk release! Even then I bet it be along the lines of three x-series or t-mobile payg offers of £1 pounds a day for access!

For a company that have pretty much spearheaded mobile data in the 2G and now 3G business world I must say that Vodafone have been extremely tardy in addressing what could be called the retail customer end of the business.

Vodafone still charge for data as if it were the mid-1980s. And the take-up of their data offerings is a clear indicator of how that particular bit of PTT thinking is just not working.

Well one of the current rummers is that Vodaone will charge PAYGO users £1 a day to get 25MD of data, not sure if thats via handset or not but if its right Im sure the current deal of a £1 perday and 1GB from T_Mobile beats it before it gets off ground!
