Read on another forum that is you are an existing 3 customer and want a USB Broadband modem you can get a redemption code to order on-line and they knock £30 off the price on PAYG.
Not a bad deal really if your area has sufficient coverage for your mobile bowsing and download needs.

Good ... well if you wait until they share networks with T-Mobile then it might be useful as 3's coverage is pretty thin and grim where I am.
We better hope not too many folks get these as just 3 of them working on a cell can max it out!!

The landline may finally have had its day! Not quite, but it wont be long before these devices are below £50 and comparable to ADSL or cable modems. I know which one I'll be going for in future. Oh hang on, I wont have a laptop. mmmm Maybe I should have bought a macbook.

Would be great if you could do the pings and speed tests and post your results here, getti: http://www.talk3g.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4742
Love these USB modems. They're being hailed as a great success. I hope it's not just hot air and that they really are selling as well as it sounds... I'll only believe it when we start hearing of capacity problems like they had in Ireland :D

Mine seems to work in a "toss of a coin" style - I'll either get 350kbps of "blistering" Vanilla 3G - or for some reason it's be a trickle at 80 -110 kbps ( more often the later unfortunately )
Hopefully this will improve when I get some HSDPA coverage -
Not worth me doing the tests on standard 3G is it ? although I will do them if anyones interested ?
Either way , I love mine - I have been using my phones as modems for a while now , but the problems with that are
a) Battery life - using a BT / WIFI connection as well as the HSDPA certainly canes the battery ! so I find myself having the phones on charge all the time
b) plus it simply ties up the phone , If I want to make or take a call while I am surfing it can be interesting - WCS requiring a reboot ! although this is very rare
To simply plug the thing into my UMPC /EEPC/mac and be surfing with no impact on my other devices is excellent !
I remember in the "device of the year" Ben nominated this device ( in its Vodafone Guise ) as his favourite , at the time I thought "big deal , it doesn't really do anything I am not doing already " - but having owned one for a few days I can see where he was coming from now , and I haven't even experienced HSDPA on it yet !
I am feeling especially pleased with myself that I am only paying £5 pm too - not sure if this loophole will be closed - but it works for me ATM !

Meh! Just plug it into one of the three USB ports on the back of the Mac Mini :D

That's the great thing with these USB modems - you can plug them into almost anything! Not just PCMCIA ports anymore :D So much more useful.
miffed - I'm really glad you're finding your USB modem as great as you are! I hear you loud and clear with regard to using a phone as a modem. I'm not knocking it, it's great, but it lacks the 'plug in and go' simplicity of these modems, and, I reckon, the sheer performance you can get! If you do want to do some tests then the more the merrier, just state that it's regular 3G. Latency is one of the big issues with wireless Internet technologies, so I think it's really useful for us all to monitor it.

This might be a better option for me.
Get a 3 USB Modem and pay a fiver a month rather than use the phone as a modem. I'm not that bothered about the Internet on the handset anyway as I am quite happy with what you get for free on Planet 3.

For £69.99 it is pretty good value - I'd be happier paying that than full whack.

Getting the promo code seems to be a chore. The Mumbai muppets have no info and do their best to talk you into a contract!!
I like a challenge though - so I will keep trying!!

If a couple of years back - at the height of "the wall" era , someone suggested that Three would be offering 1GB of PAYG HSDPA via a modem for £10 per month , no one would have believed it
I think that we are now (finally) getting what we all wanted to see from 3G ! and the fact that is coming from Three is amazing !
Is this the "revolution" we were promised leading up to March 2003 ? It certainly is more revolutionary than anything else Three have done - and for the first time EVER (IMO) they are actually ahead of the pack !
Shame that it took them nearly 5 years to realise that DATA is the part of 3G that we are all interested in , but they got there in the end !
I only hope that , as already mentioned , Three don't become victims of their own success , with the modems maxing out cells left right and centre
