Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knew if the Mobile Mail add on from 3 would work with the Viewty? I would really like to access my email on the move but it's not on the list of devices. They also offer the "Add Email" addon for £5 per month but there appear to be no restrictions on handsets.
Does anyone know what the best route would be to go down?
Thanks

At the moment this service does not work on the U990

Is that for both services (Mobile Mail & Email) or just the Mobile Mail?
How come it doesn't work on the Viewty then? Surely an email serivce is an email service? (Sorry I don't really know much about the technical side! :o)
Thanks

the email client in the phone works if you have a POP3 / IMAP account and the internet add-on. Or there is the 3Mail address every customer can have but the actual Mobile Mail software wont work on the phone yet

Yea but, no but, yea but, no. It sort of is, but isn't. It tends to be the back-end communications that has to be sorted out. The choices tend to be POP3/SMTP or IMAP. Then of course there is Webmail. All different means of communicating with the mail server.
What you will need is a "mail client" application that will do the comms with the mail server and interface with you. For example, Outlook or Outlook Express in Windows will use POP3/SMTP but all that you get to see is the various screens to display and handle your mail. That is a mail client and you'll need something similar for the viewty to make it all happen natively in your new handset.
As an alternative your mail provider may have Webmail access in which you can use the Viewty's web browser to get to your mail. It is not necessarily as slick as POP3 or IMAP, but it is access where you have a signal and sufficient data left to use that month.
Another possible is to use Googlemail (Gmail) to front-end your own mail address. It will happily do this. The only thing you need to find out is if Google Mail's own app (see http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/mail/index.html ) is compatible with the Viewty. It is for the Symbian S60 handsets.. and I think there is a Java version which will run on any Java-enabled handset.
To find out if your handset is compatible you can enter gmail.com/app in your phone's web browser and see if it offers you a download.

Ahh so when you sign up 3 send you a special client that deals with the email then?
Thanks for such a detail reply Hands0n, much apreciated. I understand a little better now :)
It is actually GMail that I want to use so I can keep in touch when I am away from my PC. I have the GMail application on my K800i at the moment and that works great, however I am very weary about using it as I don't like the huge data charges involved.
So if, as getti says, I get the "Add Internet 10" add on for £2.50 does that mean I will be able to check my emails using the GMail app (providing the app works on the Viewty) without incurring additional charges? (as long as I stay within the 10mb limit).
It doesn't mention anything about email looking at the Internet 10 info page, but the "Add Internet Max" add on mentions the following:
Get unlimited* internet browsing and internet email for just £5.00 per month.
Does "internet email" mean 3's 3Mail or does it meal all POP3/SMTP mail? Im confused :(

Getti, thats your cue :)
From what I can see the "Add Internet Max" best fits your profile. It will let you grab Internet mail (thats your mail provider) to the handset. It gives your 1GB to play with which is a lot to a handset even if you're an avid browser.

you would need Add Intetnet Max really and get 1GB of intetnet as you wish. There is a GMail app on Planet 3 which would work if you have that Add-On

Nice one thanks mate :)
Now I have 1 other quick question. It refers to "internet browsing" for the Max add on. Am I to be optimistic in thinking this means any website, or is this just the recommended websites that 3 mentions on the info page?
So now you can visit hundreds of great sites, such as ITN, Lastminute.com, Multimap, and National Rail Enquiries.
I guess what I am asking is, does the 1GB data allowance allow you to visit any website and take advantage of Internet enabled applications such as Google Maps? (which I have heard is installed by default on the Viewty)
I would try and ask 3 customer services, but they either don't understand what you are asking them or they start offering you services that aren't relevant.
I do apreciate your help!!
