I think that by now anyone who has tried speedtest.net to check out their HDSPA speed will have been disappointed at the results. It just does not seem to work well with any HSDPA connection.

I found that dslreports has a reasonable little mobile speedtest link here http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?t=1&w= that uses a larger file (1MByte) allowing a more accurate assessment to be made.

My own result on T-Mobile's Web n Walk Pro via Bluetooth to a Nokia N95 (Classic model) revealed the following

Mobile speed test
1122 kbit/sec

1.133s latency
7.977s d/l time.

I am a bit doubtful about that latency figure, but the 1.1Mbps does sound about right for T-Mobile's HSDPA.

Ouch is all I can say with regard to latency.

Your best bet is to download a large file from microsoft.com and download.com in order to get an average of what the download speed is.

For latency, just ping google.com and bbc.co.uk
