Have been with 3 for just over 2 months. Me, my partne & sister-in-law signed up together & got an extra 2000 '3 to 3' minutes a month. The deal sounded good & the people in the shop were great before we'd signed up - after that they don't really care
We all went for the Nokia 6500 sliders but my sister-in-laws screen broke & she had to pay for repairs. She couldn't put her sim card in another phone as it said the sim card (not the phone) was locked.
is there a way of unlocking the sim from '3' - i can see a time when mine will break & I'm not paying for repairs & just want to use my old Nokia 6230i

Hi fjweaver,
I've never heard of a SIM card being locked other than when a PIN code is entered incorrectly... Are you sure it's not the handset that you're trying the SIM in that's not locked? Was the Three SIM tried in one of the other official Three handsets that were purchased at the same time?
Three are very picky with the handsets they let onto their network. 2G only phones are not allowed, and many 3G handsets struggle as the setup is a pest. The one you've mentioned, the 6230i is a 2G only handset, Three won't allow that on their network, and I doubt your current USIM will work in it anyway.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like the best way is just not to break your 6500 slide!

Hi there, I know that sounds like sensible advice, but my screen also broke on my 6500 slide after 10 days use - this happened without any shock or other misuse of the phone. Tried to get 3 to repair it but they came back saying it was outside the warranty.
Really don't think these phones are up to being termed 'mobile', they are in my opinion unfit for purpose. See the thread on the Nokia forum for how many other people have experienced this:

I too have the same issues getting my ex-O2 Nokia 5500 Sport to work properly with the 3 sim. I can get the 3 homepage up but it won't browse the internet. I think I have the settings right.
Also have an issue with receiving some SMS messages from O2 handsets - if it is a long message it is usually delayed until the same person sends a second message and the two come through together.
Three customer services are predictably fairly unknowledgable, although one guy seemed to think that there is a known issue with O2 messaging. I do feel sorry for the Indian call centre staff, they must get a lot of grief from irate three customers.

Actually, regarding my last post - should I be able to access the internet on my ex-O2 handset? I can only seem to browse My 3 and some other sites they let you on, however it's my understanding that I should be able to access other pages for approx. 2p per page. Would this be something to do with settings or is it because I'm using a non-3 handset?

Yes its to do with the settings. You have to set the APN so that your handset points to the appropriate server.
Have a search on here for 3's Internet settings and change your ex 02 handset and you should be able to access the net. Just be careful though as the cost can be a lot more than 2p per page as many sites now use very rich multimedia (BBC, Bebo, Facebook etc). If you intend to use the Interneton 3 regularly it might be best to buy the add-on at £5 a month which allows you to browse up to 1GB of Internet on your handset.
