We were meant to get a glimpse of Samsung's first Android handset way back in February at the Mobile World Congress but some unexplained 'delays' saw the announcement held up until now...
With today's unveiling of the 'I7500' however the months look to have been worth the wait as Sammy - notorious for great hardware and dodgy touchscreen UIs - finally gets to work to its strengths and what strengths they are.
The I7500 is a technical tour-de-force with 7.2Mbit HSDPA, WiFi, GPS, a 3.2in 320 x 480 AMOLED display, 5MP camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, 8GB of internal memory and a microSDHC expansion slot supporting 32GB cards (a 40GB potential maximum). On top of this is a hefty 1500mAh battery (up on the 1200mAh we see in the T-Mobile G1 and at just 11.9mm thick it is on a par with the much less powerful HTC Magic and main rival: the iPhone 3G.
Looks quite nice! I'd probably prefer one to a HTC device... we'll see how it pans out though I guess.

just pre-ordered one at Expansys. I actually put down my pre-order faster than any previous Nokia pre-order so that is saying something!.

Really like the spec, design and overall product

Looks decent enough, now how will this compete against iPhone 3.0? I'll just go and grab my iPhone and see ;)

The first samsung Android phone will be the i7500 which has been acquired by Telefonica as an exclusive. It will debut on both their 02 and Movistar networks in Q3 2009.

I saw only O2 Germany had the phone announced, no UK or other network had agreed too yet

Do we know if they have used a capcitive touchscreen ? not many clues here as the demonstrater seems to prefer the Dpad (a bit ominous ? )

We don't, afaik, and that's going to be a major factor.

Well, that looks pants! Whatever happened to an iPhone beater? I was hoping that this would be a capable device, but from that video the interface looks clunky and awkward to navigate.
If one assumes that iPhone users can upgrade after 12 months to the new iPhone, then time is running out for any competitor.

^^^^ Must admit that's what I thought , but didn't want to appear pessimistic !!

I have to be honest , I prefer the G1 form factor :o:o

There's a problem somewhere...

...seems to be with the person rather than the phone, IMHO :D Would like to see more.

Read on one site that Telefonica had the exclusive for Eurpoe for the i7500. It has been confirmed on 02 in Germany for June. I cant imagine Telefonica will have slipped up in their other markets especially when Vodfaone and T-Mobile have already made exclusive deals with HTC for Android phones.

We shall see....

Next month for O2 i heard.

With the HTC Hero and G2 now on sale, Vodafone having the Magic and the N97 and O2 still pushing some device from Apple i doubt the i7500 will get a look in

After posting here I had a little sniff around and I see , as Getti suggests , it is about to launch on o2
So iPhone 3GS , Palm Pre and Samsung Galaxy ? , that is a pretty formidable line up IMO !!

I just hope the Network copes !!
