Lots of rumour, speculation and outright FUD about what Sony Ericsson are all about in 2009. Not much so far .. but that may all be about to change ... http://www.mobil.nu/ArticlePages/200907/04/20090704151734_MDK719/20090704151734_MDK719.dbp.asp - scroll down to the English translation to read what the pictures are trying to tell us. Is this the new beastie, the SE Xperia X2

Sony Ericsson ”Rachael” is the codename of the Swedes' first Android-based mobile phone, that is expected to be announced later this year. It will be part of Sony Ericsson's series of XPERIA products. We've got our hands on internal documents about the phone, that seems to have the potential to be a sales success.

The phone is based on the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform, that enables processor speeds up to 1 GHz, and HSPA-speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. This platform will also sport great 3D graphics capabilities.

The phone's built-in camera is an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus. There's also a 3.5 mm jack connector as well as a mini-USB connector at the top of the phone. The touch screen appears to be rather large, and according to our sources its diagonal measures no less than 4 inches. As of now, we have no word on the screen resolution, but it'll probably end up at 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA) or so.

Indeed, it looks like a winner. They just have to:
1) Get it to market on time (LOL! Oh... LOL!! Take the Z1010 and carry on from there :D)
2) Ge the software right (LOL! *Tries to forget about the P series*)

So yeah, potential as always, but will they follow through for once?

The problem with Sony is that they always think that they can do better and frequently fail.

In Android they have a great opportunity to just deliver on an already proven platform. There is no need to fiddle with the formula. But will they resist the temptation?

One has to hope that with the X2 they don't repeat the cock up that turned out to be the X1.

Not too bad - its not Google Android as we know and love it in 1.5 Cupcake - nor does it look at all like Donut, although I do recall reading somewhere that SE was waiting for Android 2.0 Donut before releasing their product. I can't see why as OTA updates will occur when it is ready, and all they're doing is ensuring that they are late to market.
