First up let me say that this article is probably of most interest and benefit to anyone who has unlocked their iPhone 3GS with 3.0 software using Redsn0w.

The full iClarified article is here --> http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4520

There have been some reported instabilities with the Redsn0w unlock and which are [again] reportedly remedied by unlocking with Purplesn0w.

Geohot has posted stating (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4519) that the purplesn0w unlock should improve issues with wifi, battery, and the unlock itself.

The only caveat with PurbleSn0w is that the handset must be already activated;

YOU MUST ALSO (FOR THE TIME BEING) HAVE ACTIVATED YOUR IPHONE WITH AN OFFICIAL APPLE CARRIER. NO HACTIVATION SUPPORT YET.

If your iPhone 3GS with 3.0 software is working fine then you can probably ignore this post entirely.

Interestingly, you can now Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS without going through the awful palava of having to capture a pair of "critical" files as was told by the first attempt using PurpleRa1n. That is all history now and the Jailbreaks by Redsn0w and PurpleRa1n are back to the normal trivia that we have grown to know and love.

iPhone software 3.1 is in the wings, reportedly doing lots of good stuff but also undoing the 3.0 unlock. No doubt it will be a matter of "watch this space" with The DevTeam and Geohot posting their latest mouse to Apple's cat.
