Just received a text and Vodafone have 'simplified' their non-EU roaming chages.

There are now 3 regions Asia/Pacific, USA/Canada & Rest of the World.

Asia Pacific = 80p/Min, USA/Canada £1 & Rest of World £1.65 per minute to call - min charge 1 minute calls billed in 1 minute increments.

Recieving calls Asia/Pacific 75p, USA/Canada 99p, Rest of World £1.25 a minute - min 1 minute charge + 1 min increments.

The whole horror story is here: http://www.abroad.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-world/

Absolutely disgusting pricing which will further encourage folks to use a local Mobile Operator's SIM card when travelling.

The above charges apply to Contract & PAYG. (Vodafone contract phones are no longer SIM locked).

Check local SIM costs and rates here: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/operators.html

Expensive to be sure. Making up the difference from the EU roaming caps, no doubt!

Hmmm, that must make Vodafone one of the most expensive UK networks to roam with!!

What a very disappointing read.

Vodafone is taking such a wrong turn here and learning nothing from the amazing income growth it received when forced by the EU to significantly lower its roaming charges for text and voice where usage shot up through the roof, taking revenue along with it. But these ex-PTTs under the GSMA have such a tough time understanding and accepting the simple economics of stack-em-high-sell-em-cheap, even in the face of practical results.

They all still think "premium" is the way to go, and in doing so their clamp down usage by making the service prohibitively expensive to use. And in that they are so very wrong. How can it make any sense to build out a network that no one uses!

Bottom line is I won't be switching on my Vodafone UK account in Turkey.

With roaming charges like these it would be very easy to spend more on the phone bill than on the holiday!

(£3.10 for a 1 min 20 sec call!!) If ever something was invented to encourage folks to find an alternative this daft pricing wins the star prize.

Even more annoying is that Vodafone have a 100% owned network in Turkey!

A downright rip-off.
