Just had a look at www.dialaphone.co.uk and their current 6680 deal on 3 is as follows:

Free phone on Talk & Text 600 (18 Months)
Free Bluetooth Headset
Free 3 months Insurance (£5.99/month thereafter)
Free Desk Top Digital Clock

£3.99 a month for 1st 10 months then £30/month thereafter so £ 279.90
Minus £10 on-line ordering bonus

The final amount payable equals £269.90 (£15/month over 18 months)

OK, so 3 is pretty woeful in terms of content and practicalities but if you can get decent coverage and not too much call dropping the above could be a worthwhile gamble. Offer available until 30th June 2005.

It is now 4.99 for the first 6 months - now £389.94 (£21.66/month over 18 months).

My, how things change in a few days :)

Its whatever the market will stand...... as ever!

One has to wonder how many will be tempted by a 6680/6630 on those terms and then be dissapointed when they find out they cant be unlocked!

The Unlockers are well on it already and it wont be long before BB5 unlocking is cracked. They have to as the money is thin in unlocking kit for existing technology which is widespread, cloned by the Chinese and being sold cheaply in the 3rd world countries.

There is already a device (Universal Box) that purports to be able to reflash 66xx handsets, not sure yet if it will actually remove the SP lock on BB5s yet. Information is a bit sketchy right now.

Back on topic :) These Three deals persist - but the sting in the tail seems to be Content and what they'll charge for that. The trick seems to be to buy into the cheap tariff and reject all offer of anything other than the cheap voice mins and text quantities. Start down the road of Content, MMS or x-net Videocalling and the bill soon runs up steeply!

Overpriced content is a loser for any 3G operator. It'll be hard enough to tempt customers to use new services on mobiles even at minimal prices. Bundling has to be the way to go with customers perception of value being the issue for what is currently a trivial range of novelty add-on's.

A value package is the only way to go for customers and it will attract them in the long run

Agree completely re bundling/value packages - that is, after all, what attracted me to take on the Video Value package. Modestly priced, a good insight into [most of] the content, some opportunity to experiment with Videocall and Videomessaging (the latter of which has proven to be near useless to me!).
