Just looked at the TV advert for the HTC win 7 phone and it has some compelling features...

There is a link to the report below and two YouTube Videos of the US TV Adverts on the web page.

N-joy

PS: Could be time to think again for those who thought it was game over in the mobile OS market for Microsoft.

I have not figured out where Windows Mobile 7 is pitched. Especially as I keep reading that Win Mo 6.5 is going to stick around quite a bit longer for the Enterprise market. Which then leaves me wondering what Win Mo 7 is all about if it isn't a natural successor [in the Enterprise space] for Win Mo 6.5.

For instance, there is a fairly significant comment here http://tinyurl.com/3ag3uw3

It's also been mentioned that there won't be a Activesync/MDC type of connection to sync up with a desktop/laptop. Instead, everything will be sync'ed up 'to the cloud'. Hmmm, I'm OK with syncing up to my Enterprise Outlook server, but I'm not sure about putting 'ALL' my stuff out on the cloud.
Enterprise will not like that particularly much.

What we also find to be crystal clear: Microsoft is putting far more emphasis on the consumer market than its productivity features for the enterprise.

Although the Windows Team Blog is quite insistent that Win Mo 7 is indeed Enterprise-worthy by intent and design - http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_phone/b/windowsphone/archive/2010/06/07/windows-phone-7-means-business.aspx

But if you scroll down to the reader comments, as they pick apart the annnouncement, you will find that all is not quite as rosy as Microsoft paint.

So, can Microsoft, in Win Mo 7, bring to the table a device that is suited to Enterprise, their biggest customer, while at the same time selling to the XBox and Zune crowd. The latter, of which, is where Win Mo 7 seems to be heavily pitched.

I await the new OS with eager anticipation. I've never been a Win Mo fan, having seen what they have done in the PDA space and seen some Win Mo 6.1 devices that [three years ago] bored me rigid. They were dreadful even then and inspired complete disinterest from me. But the smartphone market has been transformed beyond recognition over the past few years and what we see today is almost unimaginable three or four years ago. So have Microsoft learned much and are they able to step into the "new" space with their new mobile OS?

So, is it really "... time to think again ..."? Maybe :)

Too little, too late IMO

Say it to yourself..... "Twelfth time lucky" ....... Doesn't instill you with confidence does it ?

I would be AMAZED if WP7 is on a parr with Android/ iOS , and even if it is , I have no confidence in MS to maintain any momentum beyond launch !
Look at the Android community , Android is constantly evolving , and the users (even though their devices are feature packed and more than usable) are screaming out for the updates !! ,
I simply can't imagine Microsoft being prepared or able to provide constant evolution of WP7, they are more of a "sit back on your laurels" type of affair .

We'll find out if this incarnation of WM is suddenly going to be more substantial to previous 11 attempts soon enough though !

I think the key factor with Windows Mobile 7 will be ease of use and convienience. That is the gap in the market now as I found out when a friend of mine got a new Android phone and found all the facilities baffling! He does not even have the Internet at home so all of the settings, menus, apps stores etc are all completely new concepts. I think Windows Mobile 7 could suit customers who want all the bells and whistles but without all the complex computer procedures that current smartphones are based on.

I think the user interface could also be appealing and have no doubt we will see similar looking ones on other products before long.

Ok, the first ad is just awful, and fwiw so is that start screen. Urgh.

The second one, however, made me chuckle - first time ever for a Microsoft ad! So typical that they do significantly better second time around ;)

I need to see one myself to pass judgement; their legacy in mobile is weak. They couldn't even compete with Symbian. Yeah.

There is an interesting short article and a 9 minute video comparing the Windows 7 Mobile to an iPhone. Although the presenter is rather biased towards Windows 7 Mobile he does give up the points that the iPhone clearly wins on. Steve Litchfield take note ;)
