HP is to ship its eagerly anticipated PDA phone, the iPaq 6515 Mobile Media Companion on 1 July, the company's Singapore website has revealed.

The 6515 is HP's Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition-based alternative to PalmOne's Treo 650 communicator. The wireless device features quad-band GSM and GPRS phone network support, with EDGE for higher data transfer rates. The unit also supports Bluetooth 1.2. There's no Wi-Fi, but the device does feature an integrated GPS receiver, the website's specification confirms.

Contrary to previous reports, the 6515's Intel PXA270 XScale processor is clocked to 312MHz, not 520MHz, but the possibility remains that another model in the series may run at the higher clock speed. The 64MB of ROM on board and 64MB of SDRAM, of which 55MB is available to the user. There's 12MB of Flash storage too. Expansion comes courtesy of separate SD IO and Mini SD slots.

The 6515 has a 3in, 320 x 240, 65536-colour display, and a 1.3 megapixel camera built in. HP is branding the camera Photosmart to tie the unit in to its range of digital cameras.

The handheld weighs 165g and measures 11.8 x 7.1 x 2.1cm, so it's slightly larger than the Treo 650. The battery is a 1200mAh removable job.

HP Singapore is asking SGD1347 for the product - around $804 or £441, though the US and UK prices are likely to be different. ®
