Wow, it has been a day for mobile device updates today *checks calendar to make sure its not 25/12*

Recently it has hit the various on-line media that Google were updating the Nexus One to Android 2.2.1 to build number FRG83D. Information on the changes is very sketchy, there appears to be no official changelog, but various sites are reporting the following changes

Updates to the core and framework JARs
Updates to the Dalvik VM and Webcore libraries
Updates to the Email, Google Services Framework and Market packages.
A couple of other very minor patches

Sized at 1.3MB the update is minimal indeed and can only contain bug fixes and patches (a full OS runs to some 80MB).

There is some speculation that FRG83D is paving the way for Gingerbread due out in a little while. But only time will tell. And, at least for now, the update is only for the Nexus One.

NB: The update installs in two reboots. So don't worry.
You can also prompt the update by using dialling *#*#checkin#*#* (*#*#2432546#*#*) where the Notification Bar should say "Checkin Successful".
