• Anti-Google sentiment building?

As a general observation, I've noticed an increasing amount of anti-Google sentiment around the web, mostly in comments but also on TV (that BBC2 programme about the Internet focussed heavily on Google's domination last week) and in the news. Today it's Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao's turn, as he suggests that there are choice implications when what he's really screaming is *somebody regulate this giant before there's no ad revenue left for the rest of us*. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...s-google-power

While long at odds with Microsoft, Google has alienated Apple with Android and Chrome OS, and we're yet to see the impact of the Nexus One on Android development partners who may now be actively seeking to reduce their forward commitment to the OS since Google got into hardware. It spanked Mozilla with the Chrome browser, and, as a cheeky smirk to oft-broken money-pit Twitter, threw Buzz into the mix. Facebook is walking around with a target on its back.

No longer a partner to be trusted, Google seems determined to go it alone in almost every aspect of the net. It's even running its own public DNS!

I believe competition should sort things like this out, because there's no reason for Google's dominance, as far as I can see, other than it being exceptional at search, and arguably mail. Definitely ads. But such a cash-rich company can simply acquire any tech that it sees as a threat... preventing future acquisitions and mandating organic growth is, then, perhaps the way forward for now.

    What do you think?

I disagree maybe this is what others need a kick in the ass, for years microfsoft done this with nothing said or done, apple has dont it with ITunes, Nokia with the mobiles and cough software cough, networks have dont it for years ripping of users with high call prices and data roaming . So its not new.

Vodafaone and other can moan, as they dint think of this in first place and its hitting them in the pockes, its ok the boots on the other foot now. I think the user has to have a say. Eample why goggle phone, cos the other phone which is as good or better is the iphone, but the price is a pip off

There is a lot to be said for proof reading.

I think there has long been anti google sentiment, mostly a lack of trust over privacy issues and such. But as google try to put there finger into ever more pies the sentiment will keep building, and its only a matter of time before they get slapped down in the same way Microsoft does today. I'd like to see more action taken against the likes of Google and Apple, as I feel they have gotten away with far too much on the back of being the underdogs and this creates an unfair market. People complain about the security of Windows, but Microsoft's hands are kinda tied, as no matter how secure they make it people will find a way to break it, the only solution is firewalls and anti virus, but they aren't allowed to include a comprehensive solution, heck they are barely allowed to include a web browser or media player.
