One cannot understand why Nokia are charging so damn much more than third parties. Sim-Free needs to be liberated, not overpriced. What they're asking for is absolutely insane IMHO, regardless of the handset being relatively new.

Totally agree with Ben there. The age of SIM-free could be sparked off so easily if the manufacturers were not being so silly and greedy for loads of money for a very few sales. They could take a very large leaf from the Wal Mart book of commerce. These handset prices do not in any way reflect the factory floor price of manufacture. For a lower margin they could shift shed loads and start a whole new business line in the process!
eBay sellers offloading them for £369 for example. The only issue may be post sales support. You'd be in the hands of Nokia from day one, probably. The final Auction prices seem to be higher than the Buy Now in some cases!!! Some folk get into a right bidding frenzy

This has got to be one of those "in the eye of the beholder" things I do not think that I would want to pay close on £500 for a handset, SIM-free or otherwise. A more realistic figure needs to be struck to bring people like me out of the woodwork. We'll all buy direct, for sure, but not at any price.

When you can get a branded laptop for less than £400 with all the bells and whistles it beggers belief that a mobile phone has the price tag shown above.
OK there are Vertu's and other such fashion products but the N80 is a mainstream mobile that'll be hacked to death by the networks once the early adopters pay the usual premium to be first with it.
