Default bleeding ticker...

just got an n73 for the missus on 3 and on the desktop there's an annoying ticker, banner type thing that just scrolls along and advertises 3 services. I can't find where to turn the bleeding thing off!!! I've searched through settings, tools, applications, everywhere.... maybe its just me, it's probably really obvious but I just can't find how to do it..... help!

Try turning active standby off in the settings > display

Reboot the phone and switch back on again. I did that and the ticker bar was gone

No problem. I had the same thing on the N73 when i got it a few days ago on 3. I loved having active standby as its like a reminder of things but hated the ad bar.

Turned off standby, rebooted and put back on and its no longer there

Oo, so on Three-branded S60's you can either have Active Standby with Three's ad-bar or neither?

That's kinda harsh... on some other brands the ad-bar can be disabled without losing any functionality Active Standby rocks!

That used to be the case. However now you can have active standby on with no ad bar

Yup.

Having experienced 3's ad bars on previous handsets I thought it'd be a nightmare to get rid of it.

But after 48 hours the ads simply disappeared, never to be seen again!

I didn't touch the active desktop settings, and the shortcuts to calendar etc are still there, but the ads stopped on there own after 48 hours.

I presumed they'd done this intentionally to introduce new customers to 3s services, and then the message went after they'd been on planet 3 a few times.
