Hi,
some time last year, I aquired a free datacard after buying an Acer laptop. The data card came with a Sim card that had £20+vat credit pre-installed, (= 10Mb worth of data, at £2+vat per Mb.) I have now sold the data card, and am wondering; how can I now find out how much credit remains on the Sim card? Also, I've been able to send text messages using the Sim in my phone, but I'm unable to make voice calls; is it possible to enable the Sim for voice calls? Cheers.

Thanks for the number 3g-g,
thought I'd ask the experts before phoning Vodafone !!! ![]() I was hoping that there may be a 'text request' type thing, to be able to get a 'credit remaining' text reply ? Converting the Sim to PAYG would be handy... Regarding the voice calls; is it a definate thing that the Sim will not do voice, or is it possible that my phone settings are incorrect ? ![]()

Ahh, dial *#1345# then press the green button, your remaining balance should be displayed, that's free. As far as the voice is concerned, I'm afraid it's just data that it'll do just now, it's the same with my Orange data card SIM, text is allowed, voice isn't, however, it's just a setting in the profile of the SIM on the network that needs changed, and for Vodafone to get more money out of you, rather than you binning the SIM I can't see a reason as to why they wouldn't allow it to be used for voice also! If you do get onto CS let us know what they say!

*#1345# won't work on it because it won't be a payt sim. It'll be set up as a Pay as you use. It's a monthly contract without the line rental that was setup especially for the laptop deals.
Shouldn't be a problem getting it transferred to a payt sim but any credit wouldn't usually be transferred over.

Thanks for that Guys.
One more thought; my personal mobile is a Nokia 3310 ,but my wife and daughters phones are all data capable. Will I be able to make a connection using one of their phones? If so, where would I need to insert the correct phone settings? and if that is possible, could I then attain a Sim credit status? It would be nice to be able to use up the credit on the Sim; without going over the credit limit, as I've cancelled the dd! The Vodafone signal is not at all good in my part of Wales, otherwise, I would maybe consider converting it to PAYG. I suppose converting the data Sim to a PAYG Sim could be good for others in the same boat as me, but only where the Vodafone signal is stronger in their area than mine. A fair solution might be for Vodafone to allow this, as long as the Sim owner matches the remaining free credit with a top up? Thanks again for your help. I was just wondering, does calling *#1345# work for any payg sim or just vodafone, as my friend is with orange and was asking a similar question and I couldn't help him.
It worked for my vodafone payg sim which used to be a pay monthly. Thanks for any help, considering i'm in the wrong section.

As I mentioned earlier; I have e-mailed Vodafone 3 times, and not had one reply from them. I contacted them via their "contact us" page, and included "FIT165" in the text as that was recommended to me on another forum. I will try e-mailing again using "FIT135". Thanks.

Vodafone CS are the people who can help you make the best use of that remaining credit. I know we, as customers, shouldn't have to be so persistent in demanding answers, but traversing customer service operations is a skill and one you'd be wise to practice
