A Day in London with my iPhone. Written on my iPhone.

Below are 3 emails I wrote on my iPhone. Enjoy!

Well, the first big test of my iPhone has arrived!

I'll be doing London by train tomorrow, with just my iPhone from dawn
until dusk. I'll be relying on it to do my emails, check internal
status pages via the VPN, and generally find my way around on foot!

Last time I went I took the n95 8gb and it all went wrong. The web
browser wasn't good enough for my webmail and the gps couldn't find
selfridges!

Will I survive? Will my iphone? Will i get 3g?!?!? Fingers crossed!

Ok, I'm on the train and so far the iPhone is holding it's own. There
were problems at the station so I went on thetrainline and found
another train. Then I googled for a tube map and found how to get to
the station I needed to end up at from my new destination. Easy!

I've seen edge for the first time since I hopped on. It seems at home
I only have standard 2g so o2 gain another FAIL. Some 3g too, both
nice and quick. Listening to music as I email you, these latest iPod
headphones are very good, relatively speaking.

My friend's email has stopped working on her iphone, so we resorted to
SMS. My email, I assume, is still fine. I'll sort her out she I get
there

That's all for now!

Well, London has done it's best today, but the iPhone prevailed - sort
of.

In TFL's ultimate wisdom, the entire Victoria line was closed today.
Not to worry, I had that covered with a tube map I googled in Safari.

I decided to go an find the restaurant for dinner, but unfortunately
google maps still sucks. It placed the restaurant about 10 minutes
away from where it actually was - I ended up in the middle of a road.
Fortunately I had better luck finding the restaurant by it's address,
found by viewing it's website. Good.

Google maps doesn't seem to give a compass. So, when it tells you to
head south east, you have to walk in a random direction and see where
the dot moves to! A bit silly.

Then the real fun started, and it was all down to my friends iphone,
not mine!

Her mail packed in yesterday. Doesn't even open on me.com. So, we went
to regent street to see an iPod genius. iPhone 3g customers, btw, have
priority. Nice. Anyway, while not fixing the mail problem, the genius
noticed her dead pixel and offered to replace the handset. Hard to
refuse! So, replacement was done, and just before we left the new
phone did an odd thing where it switched between silent and normal a
few times. Strange, but we couldn't reproduce it so off we went for
dinner.

That's when it really started spazzing out. The silence button packed
in completely and it was rapidly switching between the two states and
vibrating a lot.

Back to the apple store, who have now completely sold out of iPhones.
Great. After half an hour or so, they ordered her a new one that
she'll have to collect and managed to find her old one with the dead
pixel for her to use until then.

Apple were great I must say, but my friend has had a nasty experience
so far what with the 7 hour queue on launch day. And she still has no
email!

So there we have it. My return train was delayed by over an hour, due
to a fatality in some place I've never heard of apparently. My iPhone
has less than 10% battery left after a heavy days use, and now I'm
just hoping it'll keep the music pumping for a little longer to keep
me sane.

If only my n95 had been such a companion. I feel like this thing is a
part of me!

Sorry to all those who couldn't sleep for wondering what the strange, unknown death of MobileMe Mail issue was all about. Apple have now acknowledged the problem, but not fixed it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1953
