Well this is a nice turn up from Samsung, the forthcoming Jet, if it ever makes to market in the UK and other areas. Allegedly it is already out in the Middle East...

The Register has a video demonstration of the Jet in action. The OLED screen looks simply gorgeous. I am quite taken with this technology and hope that as it develops we get to see it usurp LCD.

The Jet, meanwhile, is a bit of an oddball. It is running a proprietary OS by Samsung, and there is no information about there being an open platform for ISVs to develop upon. Although with Windows Mobile, Symbian, OS X and Android the notion of yet another platform for developers is probably completely moot. If you haven't got the buy in from the ISVs then you're most likely out of the game already.

That said, what was shown on the Jet seems to be fairly comprehensive for today with apps such as Facebook and Google being available. But the platform will not follow the vagaries of the Internet as new communication paradigm emerge and disappear. Samsung will have to develop to these or see their handsets rapidly become stale and obsolete. The punters will pick up on this soon enough.

Good on Samsung for pushing OLED into the mainstream. May the other manufacturers follow with great speed.
