The Beeb are currently running a story that in 2011 mobile operators lost a staggering $13.9bn due to "social messaging" apps.

I for one will admit i have contributed heavily to that figure. There was a time that i wouldn't look at a SIM that included less than 1000 texts per month, that then increased to 3000.

Then the iPhone & its App Store happened. All of a sudden i discovered services like WhatsApp, KIK, Facebook Messages and from then on in, my text message use plateaued.

When Apple released iMessage last October my text message usage SKYDIVED! I think I must have sent around 4-5 texts a month since that date and I'm a heavy mobile user.

I wonder what trick the networks have up their sleeves for creaming more £££££££'s out of the customer next?
