So the satellite is hooked up.

And I'm totally loving it.

Yes, it's every bit as slow for browsing etc as you can possibly imagine, but the extra bandwidth means I can do all of these super exciting things that I just couldn't before. Like streaming a video. Or, god forbid, downloading a software update!

It's sad that satellite is so horribly crippled by latency and cost, because it's otherwise a pretty great way of dropping a fixed internet connection absolutely anywhere. The equipment is considerably better than it was 7 years ago, too.

Now Vodafone Sure Signal has the craptastic ADSL line all to itself. But without iPhones and laptops hammering it all the time at least it should be usable for calls now. Sure Signal itself seems happy to have almost no bandwidth, so long as nothing else cuts in. Latency, on the other hand, well I'd imagine that's a very different story altogether!

A little update. My impressedness with satellite didn't last long. Large downloads would frequently corrupt. It was, surprisingly, alright for video streaming, but once I hit the monthly cap service was suspended until the following month!

        Dire.
