    The Generation Game

    by , 4th August 2010 at 12:54 AM (Ben's Talk3G Blog)
Changes litter our pasts like bookmarks throughout our own personal novels. One of the bigger changes in life is moving house, big in a practical sense but also in an emotional one as engaging with the 'stuff' we amass over the years can be a powerful trigger of memories.

Some of these memories will be good, others bad, but many will be somewhere in between. Some we'll dwell on and wonder about, some we'll regret, and what's left will make us realise just how much we've changed as ...

    iPad limitations

    by , 30th July 2010 at 09:22 PM (Ben's Talk3G Blog)
I've been using my iPad a whole lot more lately as the opportunities to whip out the MacBook Air have been fewer and further between. This weekend I'll be on the iPad almost exclusively; that's a scary thought for somebody who hasn't had a day away from a 'proper' computer in about 7 years.

As a consumption device the iPad is already succeeding, as can be seen by people offering their first born sons for one. But a lot of us a creators, not just in the sense of making content for ...

    We're better, connected

    by , 10th July 2010 at 03:15 AM (Ben's Talk3G Blog)
For the longest time I stayed away from social networking. There was something about Facebook in particular that just stopped me cold. What I always preferred, and believed would be the 'next big thing' on mobile phones, is instant messaging and chat.

What happened instead was that social ...

    Spoilers spoil things.

Well, it's likely that folk who don't even own a computer know all about the 4th generation iPhone by now, courtesy of Gizmodo. The more I look at the pictures and videos the more I can appreciate the subtle design cues in this device, which is a marked departure from the current design ethos seen in the iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch, iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and MacBook. You get the idea; the removal of 'complex' curves from this prototype makes it stick out like a sore thumb in Apple's currently ...

    Pocket Computer

    by , 30th March 2010 at 11:37 AM (Ben's Talk3G Blog)
The form factor of the future of computing for the medium term has been decided. It was decided the first time a mobile phone shrank to the size of a trouser pocket and we've been on course to realising the 'computer' aspect ever since.

There have been many false starts on this road to truly pocketable computers. Most outlandish were probably Nokia's claims of mobile phones as multimedia computers with the launch of the NSeries in 2005. While these devices had many of the capabilities ...
